View looking west at the white Travertine formations and the shallow blue pools at Hierapolis (Pamukkale). Travertine is a hard limestone formation that is formed by (thermal) springs. In the background (to the east) is the fertile Lycus Valley.
The buildings just below the white Travertine formations are the village of Pamukkale — “Cotton Castle.”
