One of the many tomb complexes in the northern necropolis of Hierapolis. In a spot like this, the relatives and friends of the deceased could gather for memorial meals on behalf of the departed.
The large sarcophagus on the left side of the image is covered with a long Greek inscription. Note how this sarcophagus is placed on a platform carved to resemble a bed or a couch—note the carved couch leg!
The doorway leads into a burial chamber.
