View looking southeast at Leander’s Tower. The Asian shore is in the background. This tower is situated just offshore from the Asian city of Uskudar. In its current form, the tower/island dates to the eighteenth century. It has been used as a fortress, a quarantine center, a lighthouse, a customs control point, a tollgate, and as an observation post to monitor shipping through the Bosphorus. It is even featured in a James Bond movie!
