View of two unfinished columns found at Alexandria Troas.
On the three sectioned column in the foreground, note on the left section that the ridges of the fluting were not yet finished. In the middle section it is clear that portions of the fluting were never completed.
On the column in the distance, notice the pointed chisel marks on one of the flutes. This was evidently how they would initially carve a flute, but in this case it looks as if additional portions of the column chipped off, thus destroying the column [after a lot of work!].
