View looking north northeast at the interior of the 9,000 seat theater at Sagalassos. In the center of the image, the almost–complete circular orchestra area is visible as is the cavea of the theater. Note in the upper right, the "belt" (diazoma) that separates the lower from the upper portion of the cavea. On the left side of the image, the backside of the stage area is visible.
The theater has not been excavated nor restored—but to me, that just adds to the impressiveness of these well–preserved remains. Because of the remoteness of Sagalassos, it was not heavily plundered for building materials.
