The main period of occupation at Hattusha is from 1680–1180 B.C. Most of the archaeology remains that have been excavated and are now on the surface are from the period of the Hittite Empire (1360–1180 B.C.).
The modern name of this site is Bogazkale/Boğazkale and the ancient name is variously spelled Hattusha, Hattusas, Hattusa, and Hattuşa. It is located about 95 miles east of Ankara, Türkiye.
The Hittites of Hattusha are the remote ancestors, via the Neo-Hittite Kingdoms of north Syria, of the Hittites mentioned in the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible.
