View looking south at the north side of the Herodium. The line leading up the side of the Herodium, to where the notch is in the top of it, outlines the remnants of the 200 "marble" stairs that Josephus says formed the approach to the fortress.
About half way up, distinctive impressions outline where entrances were to the underground cisterns and tunnels of the Herodium.
