Barnabas was the companion of Paul on his first missionary journey.  This chapel was built in the 1950's over a catacomb.  Acts 4:36 says that Barnabas was a native of Cyprus. Church tradition suggests that he was stoned to death in AD 61 and was buried by his cousin Mark on the island of Cyprus.
