Photograph of the staircase that leads down to the "presumed" Crypt of Barnabas.

Barnabas was the companion of Paul on his first missionary journey.  This chapel was built in the 1950's over a catacomb.  Acts 4:36 says that Barnabas was a native of Cyprus. Church tradition suggests that he was stoned to death in AD 61 and was buried by his cousin Mark on the island of Cyprus.
