Figs or fig trees are mentioned 68 times in the Bible—from Genesis 3:6–7 to Revelation 6:13! Figs have been a source of nourishment since the Neolithic Period (ca. 5,000 B.C.)! The trees are about 10 to 20 ft. [3 to 6 m.] high.
There are two types of fig trees: the ‘wild” or male and the ‘cultivated” or female tree. They can grow in rather arid regions. They loose their leaves in the fall of the year an blossom again in the spring.
Figs could be eaten fresh or could be dried and eaten later.
