View looking south, and down, into the Theater of Dionysus. In its final form, pictured here, it seated about 17,000 people. The outline of the cavea is clearly visible as are some of the stairs that separated the cavea into cunei.
In the lower portion of the image, the brown footpath follows the line of one of the diazoma (horizontal “belts”) that divided the cunei into lower, middle, and upper sections.
In the flat area above (south of) the orchestra, among the trees, remains of a stoa and a temple have been found.
