View looking east at the Inner Gate of the three that defend the Acrocorinth on the west — as one ascends from the west.
The gate is flanked by two towers. Portions of the tower on the right side of the image was constructed in the Hellenistic Period (about the fourth century B.C.) — compare similar fortifications at Assos and Priene. Here the finely drafted Hellenistic cornerstones are preserved to a height of 36 ft. [11 m]. The tower on the left is from the Byzantine Period.
