A close up view of the Nymphaeum, looking northwest at the Exedra of Herodes Atticus. This was built in A.D. 160. On the left, west, side of the image note the large stone basin that was part of the Nymphaeum. And on the right side of the image—enlarge to see—note the row of lions’ heads from which water spouted.
This Nymphaeum actually provided water to the whole sacred area, Altis, of Olympia.

This same Herodes Atticus built the “Theater of Herodes Atticus” on the southern slope of the Acropolis in Athens.
