View looking down, and northeast, on the Lower Terrace (of three) of the Northern Palace. This was a very private section of the Northern Palace and the most difficult to reach—you needed to descent almost 90 ft. [30 m.] from the Upper Terrace to get here. The visitors are standing in what were the covered porticos of the unit.
The walls and columns were built of individual blocks of carved limestone that in turn were covered with plaster and paint—sometimes in the fresco technique.
The back, southern wall of the unit was built against the cliff face—the corner of which is visible on the right edge of the picture.
