View of a portion of the courtyard of the Roman Bath that is located on the northern end of Masada—just south of the Northern Palace.
Note in the lower right of the image the white and black mosaic floor of the courtyard. On the right, remnants of the fresco can be seen clinging to the rubble stonewall of the bath itself.
On the left, the hole in the wall and the walkway are modern—to expedited the passages of hundreds of people through this structure.
The bath, built by Herod the Great, had all the typical amenities: a courtyard, changing room, cold pool, tepid room, and hot room. This bath was built "out in the middle of nowhere" where the rainfall is about 2 inches per year! Wherever Herod went, he wanted to live in luxury!
