View looking south along the western side of the tel where Israel Finkelstein discovered a wall from the MB IIC Period (ca. 1650-1550 BC) with buildings from the Iron Age I (1200-1000 BC) attached to it.
The MB IIC wall runs along the top portion of the image from upper left to right.
The walls of the Iron Age I structures are perpendicular to the wall and splay out from it from upper left to lower right—they are clearly visible among the green weeds. In the Iron Age I structures he found a number of large Iron Age I storage jars. This complex was destroyed by a violent fire as evidenced by the charred floor and fallen mud bricks. This destruction may have come at the hands of the Philistines.
