View looking east and down on the temple area discovered in the summer of 2012 by Prof. Shlomo Bunimovitz and Dr. Zvi Lederman of Tel Aviv University.

According to a press release the three large stones were part of the temple where rituals occurred.  Painted sherds of chalices and goblets were found in the area as were the remnants of animal bones.

The excavators believe that the temple, dating to the eleventh century BC, was destroyed and that the area was used, for a time, as a barnyard.  Evidently, the black lines on the baulk do not represent a burn level, but rather the debris of the barnyard.
