View of a detail of the pair of “Lions” that are just south of the entrance to the “Lion’s Gate.”

These "lions" were originally heraldic emblems of the Mameluke sultan Baybars, and where incorporated by Suleiman the Magnificent into the gate.

Today it leads directly into the Muslim Quarter in the northeastern portion of the Old City.
