View looking north at the Triple Gate which is set in the southern wall of the Temple Mount (Haram esh–Sharif). The three blocked entranceways are from the Medieval Period. Only the lower left doorjamb of the left (west) gate is from the Herodian Period.
During the New Testament era an underground passageway led up to the top of the Temple Mount area — as was true for the Double Gate as well.
