View looking east at the dome ceiling of the Roman Catholic “Chapel of the Flagellation.”
In the dome of the church is this beautiful crown of thorns—a reminder of the crown that was pressed on Jesus (Matthew 28:29; etc.). The chapel was renovated in 1927 by A. Barluzzi.

This is at the second station of the cross that commemorates Jesus being scourged by the Roman soldiers and especially where he “took up his cross.” It is just across the street from the Umariyya Boys School (the Antonia Fortress; Station 1).
