A capital from the synagogue of the Byzantine Period (4th-6th centuries A.D.).
Note the typical Jewish elements: the seven-branched candelabra (menorah) on a tripod, to the left of it is an incense shovel and to the right of it is a ram's horn (shophar). These three elements also appear on mosaic floors of Byzantine synagogues. Below the menorah are numerous leaves of the acanthus plant.
