View of five heart–shaped portions of a column that are located just to the west of the Chapel of the Primacy.
In basilica buildings the two columns at the rear corners of the building were often heart–shaped. These column blocks were seen here as early at A.D. 808. They are called the “Twelve Thrones” in memory of Luke 22:30 “… so that you may … sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
