View looking west at the Late Bronze Age Gateway that leads into the palace complex at Alalakh.  The picture was taken from within the palace complex and the two men in the image are entering the palace area through the gate.

On the left side of the picture notice that there is a stone foundation for the gate.  Above that, the gate has been reconstructed using mud brick that is plastered over.  The stone foundation is similar to the Late Bronze Age Gate found at Megiddo in Israel.  But there, cut stone (more abundant) was used for the superstructure.

In the center of the image, the entranceway to the rooms within the gate is featured.  Rooms within and above gates are commonplace (2 Samuel 18:33).
