This is a view of the "Middle Nymphaeum" at Sagalassos. I have called it that for it sits on the south-facing slope that descends from the Upper to the Lower City. At its base (lower left) is a major east-west street of Sagalassos. Behind this structure (upper right, not visible) is the Odeum and this Nymphaeum serves as the southern outer retaining wall of the Odeum. It was built during the second half of the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian (r. A.D. 117–138).
Notice the four prominent projecting pilasters, each with a female figure carved in relief.
This Nymphaeum is between numbers 14 and 5 on the Plan of the Lower City—but does not have its own number.
