View of the base of a column that is located on the east side of the Temple of Artemis. Besides the typical decorative carving, there is a Greek Inscription here.
A possible translation: “My column base and my foundation block are each a single stone, and of all [the columns] I am the first to rise, [built] of entire stones not furnished by the people but given by friends.” From a sign at Sardis (slightly modified).
