View looking west along the interior of the Temple of Artemis. On the right and left sides of the image the exterior walls of the temple are visible. Running across the center of the image, between the exterior walls, is a wall that divides the temple into two parts. This is because from AD 17 to 400 there were two cult rooms in the temple. One on the east, closest to the viewer, and the other on the west. One was used for the cult of Artemis and the other for the Emperor (Imperial) cult.
In the portion closest to the viewer, note the marble paving stones and a place were there was podium for cult statues.
