View looking north at the Gate of Mazaeus and Mithridates. This triple-arched gateway leads from the plaza in front of the Library of Celsus (just visible on the left side of the image) to the Commercial Agora.

It is named after the wealthy freedmen who built it in honor of Augustus.

It was constructed in 4 or 3 B.C., and so was in place when Paul lived at Ephesus.
