There are several important sites in the vicinity of the famous mountain of Nemrut Dagi including the Karakus Tumulus, the Roman Bridge at Cendere, and the site of Arsameia. This was the heartland of the small kingdom of Commagene that functioned in the first centuries B.C. and A.D. The Commagene kingdom seemed to attempt a fusion of eastern (Persian) and western (Greek) traditions.
