The main sanctuary of Yazilikaya is located just south of chambers A, B, and C. It seems to be a series of "entrance structures" that lead to the famous rock-cut chambers.
The Hittite site of Yazilikaya is located 1.25 mi. [2 km.] northeast of the Hittite capital of Hattusha. It was a sacred place constructed during the reign of the Hittite king Tudhaliya IV (1250–1220 B.C.).
