Views to and from Masada

This section contains views to and from Masada.

Masada is a desert rock mesa-like fortress that is located near the western shore of the Dead Sea (Salt Sea).  Herod the Great (37–4 B.C.) was a major builder of the site.  During the first Jewish Revolt against the Romans Zealots captured the fortress and held out there—even after the fall of Jerusalem in A.D. 70—until they decided to die rather than face the onslaught of the Roman Army that was about to capture the place.
