Cenchreae Port of Corinth

photo

View looking south across the harbor at the remains of the southern mole which extends out into the water.

Cenchreae was Corinth's port on the Saronic Gulf — on the Aegean Sea located about 6.5 mi. [9 km.] east of Corinth. Paul set sail for Syria from here at the end of his second missionary journey after his 18 month stay at Corinth (Acts 18:18). Later Paul commends Phoebe, a deaconess of the church at Cenchreae, to the church at Rome (Romans 16:1–2).
