Nymphaeum Reconstructed

View looking east at the back wall of a Nymphaeum (public water fountain) that was located to the north of the Temple of Augustus and Roma and near the harbor of Caesarea.

The visible stones are of local kurkar (fossilized dune sands), but the whole was originally covered in white marble.

Note the niches in the wall that originally showcased statues. In front of the wall was a large tub that collected the water that was available to the residents of Caesarea.
