Priest Fresco

photo

View of a copy of a fresco that was in the niche in the east portico of the Temple of Isis.

Elements in the worship of Isis are in the picture. On the left is a statue of Harpocrates, a boy with a finger in his mouth holding a cornucopia, with a lotus blossom resting on his forehead. Harpocrates was the "son" of Isis and Serapis and is frequently depicted as a youth with a finger in his mouth. On the right is a priest in a long white robe with a candlestick in each hand. A temple in a courtyard is clearly visible behind the priest.

The original fresco is on display in the Naples Archaeological Museum.
