Josephus waxes eloquent about its fertility mentioning growth of such diverse crops as walnuts, palm trees, figs, olives, and grapes (War 3.10.8 [3.516–21]).

The northwestern portion of the Sea of Galilee is just visible on the right of center portion of the image. The cliffs of Arbel are visible on the right (south) of the image.
