City Gate

View looking south at the main gate into the city of Mamshit/Mampsis.  The gate, and the 900 m. city wall were constructed in the second or third century AD.  The 0.6 mi. (900 m.) long wall encloses an area of 10 a. (4 ha.).

The wooden beam above the gate is of course a modern reconstruction.
