Livia with Cross Head

photo

Head of Livia, the wife of the Roman Emperor Augustus (r. 27 B.C.-A.D. 14) with a cross on her forehead. Evidently, the cross was added to her forehead during the Christian Era—possibly some time in the fourth century A.D.

The statue was found at the east end of the "Basilica Stoa" on the north side of the Upper (State) Agora.
