Excavation Compound

photo

View looking west at the new Excavation Compound that is located about 0.75 miles north of the site of Colossae. The house and compound look like they contain facilities for staff and equipment and room for the processing of finds.

The first formal excavation at Colossae took place in 2025 when the North Necropolis (cemetery) was surveyed and some tombs were excavated. Over 60 trough-shaped tombs carved into the travertine bedrock were excavated.

There are long-term plans (as funding permits) for the excavation of the mound (Turkish: Hüyük).

The official website for the Colossae Archaeological Excavations can be found Here.
