Column in Process

This is a portion of a column that was in the process of shaping.

It looks to me like the left four fifths was being shaped. Note the chipping where we would expect "fluting" (grooves) in an Ionic Column. It also looks to me, that the shaping project was abandoned and that on the lower (right) portion of the column a later stonemason began chipping away in order to shape the column for his own use.
