
Obelisk and Serpentine Column
photoView looking north. In the foreground is the Serpentine Column that was brought to Constantinople as “booty” from the sacred precinct at Delphi, Greece. It stood in the Temple of Apollo and had three intertwined heads (two now missing). One of its surviving heads is in the Archaeological Museum in Istanbul. It was dedicated in 479 B.C.
