Unfinished Column

It is well–known that in ancient Greek and Roman temples that the columns were fluted after they had been erected.

This example is from Alexandria Troas. The chisel marks clearly show how the fluting was being carved. However, it looks like part of the column face broke off and thus this column was discarded.
