Lydian House

photo

This picture is of a half of a "Lydian House" that was built by the excavators of Sardis—based upon their finds from the time of the Kingdom of Lydia (ca. 1200 B.C. to 546 B.C.).

The houses were built of mud-brick upon a stone foundation and covered with plaster. The colorful decorative designs are based upon the finds at Sardis. It is believed that coins were invented in Lydia sometime during the 7th century B.C.
