Caesarea East Hippodrome

Caesarea East Hippodrome

Inland, east of the shore of the Mediterranean, is the largest Hippodrome in Caesarea.  It replaced the earlier seaside one.  This eastern hippodrome was built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian (A.D. 117–138).

It is 1,476 ft. [450 m.] in length and 300 ft. [90 m.] wide.  It could seat 30,000 people on 20 rows of seats and in the middle dividers was an obelisk.
