View of a second century A.D. mosaic, from the house of a wealthy person, that depicts Asclepius's arrival on Cos. Asclepius is getting off the boat with a staff around which a snake is coiled. He is stepping on to a plank and is being greeted by a resident of Cos (called a "Koan"). Hippocrates, the famous physician, is seated on the left side of the image waiting for the arrival of the god.
