View looking northeast at the pool complex in the Lower Herodium.
The pool itself has a round base of a pavilion in the center. Probably gardens surrounded the pool itself. The pool, just beyond the person in the image, measures 230 x 150 ft. [70 x 46 m.] and is 10 ft. [3 m.] deep.
Water for the pool was brought from the springs at Artas 3.5 mi. [5 km.] to the west.
The reconstructed columns surrounding the pool would have supported a covered portico, and give an impression of what the area might have looked like in the days of Herod.
