View to the south from the Umariyya School on the north end of the Haram esh-Sharif. On the left (east) side of the image the Dome of the Rock is clearly visible. Just to the right (west) of the Dome, and slightly lower than it, the black dome of the el-Aqsa Mosque is visible. The minaret in the distance, on the right (west) side of the image is located near the southwest corner of the Temple Mount - about 1,500 feet away.
This photo was taken from the Umariyya School, the site of the Herod's "Antonia Fortress." This would have been the view that the Roman soldiers would have had of the Temple Mount precincts. Paul, was taken into this fortress in protective custody.
