View looking east at the four towers of the Antonia Fortress. This fortress towers over the northwest corner of the Temple Mount—visible on the right (south) side of the image. Built by Herod the Great (37–4 B.C.), in the first century a Roman garrison was stationed there. This is the garrison that saved Paul from an angry mob (Acts 22:27–23:22).
