View looking south down into the German Trench at a temple, variously dated to the late Chalcolithic, early Early Bronze Age - say ca. 3000 B.C.

The temple is visible on the left side of the photo. It is rectangular in shape with the door on the long, or "broad wall." In the center of the temple there is a line of 4 rectangular stones on which columns stood that supported the roof of this structure. This "broad house" design was used for both houses and temples at Arad in the southern part of Israel.
