Image of Megiddo looking west at the eastern slope of the tell. The mounds extending from the tel toward the viewer, in the center of the photo, are part of the dump from early excavations. To the right of center is a large cut that reaches the early levels of Megiddo.

Megiddo is a large mound (15 a. [6 ha.]) that rises about 160 ft. [50 m.] above the surrounding plain. It was excavated throughout the twentieth century and into the twenty-first century. It contains at least 20 distinct archaeological strata.
