A photo of "Area A" looking west. This is where the major excavation of el-Araj has taken place—to-date. It is evident that the remains at el-Araj are much more extensive than many thought. These include a Roman Bathhouse and most recently the remains of a Byzantine Church that the excavators believe was part of a monastic complex—possibly "The Church of the Apostles" that was visited by Willibald in A.D. 725.
