View of a 10 ft. [3 m.] deep portion of the excavated "circular street" of Beersheba. The street was about 8 ft. [2.5 m.] wide. The excavated portion of the street is in the center of the image — a vertical cut in the image. At the top of the image the various strata of the street are visible. It was found that the street was composed of loess soil and ash. Some have suggested that this combination more readily absorbed animal droppings!
