View looking down into the well–preserved water system located on the northeastern corner of the tel. This system was located inside the city wall so that the residents of the citadel could have a continuous supply of water even during times of siege.
Almost everything in this image is original: the sides of the depression constructed of large stones, the staircase, and the opening at the bottom).
The opening at the bottom leads to underground passageways and "cisterns" that were filled from waters from the flooded Wadi Hebron that passes the tel on its northwestern side. This type of water system is rather unique: Jerusalem made use of the Gihon Spring, while at Hazor they dug for the water table.
